Upfront cost — no obligation Fitting a gas cooker isn’t a job for a delivery driver or a DIY afternoon — by law it has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Gas First installs and connects gas cookers, hobs and ranges across East London — Bow, Stratford, Canary Wharf, Isle of Dogs, East Ham, Ilford, Barking, Dagenham, Romford, Rainham, Hornchurch, Elm Park and Upminster — from our Bow and Dagenham bases, whether it’s a straightforward swap for an existing appliance or a new cooker going in for the first time. We test every installation properly before we leave, not just connect and go. Cooker installation starts from £79.
Why a gas cooker has to be fitted by a Gas Safe engineer
Connecting a gas cooker is legally classed as gas work, which means under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations it can only be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer — not by the retailer’s delivery team, and not as a DIY job. A cooker that’s fitted or connected incorrectly can leak gas, burn unevenly, or create a carbon monoxide risk in the kitchen, and a badly done DIY connection can also invalidate your home insurance, since most insurers require gas work to have been carried out by a registered engineer. When we fit a gas cooker we check the existing gas point and bayonet fitting, or install one where needed, connect the appliance correctly, carry out a gas soundness test on the whole installation, and check the room has adequate ventilation for the appliance. It’s straightforward work for a Gas Safe engineer — but it genuinely isn’t safe to leave to anyone else, however tempting it is to let the delivery team just plumb it in while they’re there. What's included in a Gas First cooker installation
Most cooker installations are a same-day job, often completed within an hour or so of arrival. We disconnect and remove your old cooker if you have one, position and connect the new appliance, fit or check the isolation valve and bayonet fitting, and connect via a certified flexible hose or rigid pipework depending on the setup. Once it’s connected we carry out a full gas soundness test, check the burners, grill and oven ignite and run correctly, and check ventilation is adequate for the room. We tidy up, remove the packaging, and show you how the controls work before we leave. If your existing gas point or pipework needs any work to bring it up to standard — for example an outdated bayonet fitting, or no isolation valve at all — we’ll tell you before we start, price it clearly, and carry it out as part of the same visit wherever possible, rather than add it as a surprise afterwards.

Freestanding, built-in or range cookers — all major brands
We fit freestanding cookers, built-under and built-in ovens with a separate gas hob, and larger range-style cookers, and we work with all the major manufacturers — AEG, Bosch, NEFF, Hotpoint, Indesit, Stoves, Lamona and others. If you’re replacing like-for-like the job is usually quick and simple, since the connection point and the space for the appliance are already there; if you’re changing the size or type of appliance, moving from electric to gas, or the gas point needs moving, we’ll advise you on what’s involved when we quote, including whether any extra pipework or ventilation work is needed. If you’re a landlord, remember a gas cooker counts as an appliance on your property’s annual landlord gas safety certificate (CP12) — we can install the cooker and carry out the certificate inspection at the same visit, saving you a second call-out.

A recent gas hob installation in Barking
In Barking, a customer needed their old gas hob swapped for a new Ferre 5-burner model. The existing gas connection was already in place and in good condition, so it was a straightforward like-for-like job — we disconnected the old hob, fitted and connected the new Ferre hob, carried out a full gas soundness test, and checked all five burners were igniting and burning correctly before we left. The whole job, from disconnecting the old hob to handing over a tested, working new one, was completed within the hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does gas cooker installation cost?
From £79 for a straightforward like-for-like swap using an existing gas point. If new pipework or a new isolation valve is needed, we'll confirm the price before we start.
Can I fit a gas cooker myself?
No — connecting a gas cooker is gas work by law and must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A poor DIY connection can leak gas or invalidate your home insurance.
How long does it take to install a gas cooker?
Most straightforward swaps are completed in a single visit, usually within an hour or so once we're on site.
Do you remove my old cooker?
Yes, removing and disconnecting your old cooker is included as part of the installation.
Which cooker brands do you install?
All the major makes, including AEG, Bosch, NEFF, Hotpoint, Indesit, Stoves and Lamona.
Does a gas cooker need to be included on my landlord gas safety certificate?
Yes — any gas cooker or hob at a rented property must be checked as part of the annual CP12 gas safety inspection.
