Upfront cost — no obligation When your boiler stops working you don’t want a sales pitch — you want an engineer who turns up, finds the fault, and tells you straight whether it’s worth repairing. That’s what we do. Gas First is a Gas Safe registered heating company (registration 587401) working across East London, including Bow, Stratford, Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf, East Ham, Dagenham, Barking, Romford, Hornchurch, Elm Park, Rainham, Upminster and Ilford, from local bases in Bow (E3) and Dagenham (RM10). We repair all the major boiler makes, we carry common parts in the van so many faults are fixed on the first visit, and we give you a clear quote before we begin — nothing goes ahead until you’ve approved the cost.
Do you actually need a repair, or a new boiler?
It is the question every worried homeowner asks, and the honest answer is that it is often a repair, not a replacement. We have attended plenty of properties where another company had already written the boiler off, when the real problem was a single faulty part — a pump, a diverter valve, a fan or a pressure sensor — that we could replace for a fraction of the cost of a new installation. Our approach is simple: diagnose first, recommend second. If a repair is safe and economical, that is what we will do. If your boiler is genuinely beyond economical repair and you would be throwing good money after bad, we will explain why and set out your options clearly — but the decision is always yours.

Common boiler faults we repair
Most call-outs come down to a handful of problems, and we handle all of them across every major brand:
Boiler losing pressure — usually a leak or a failed part; we find the cause rather than just topping it up.
No hot water but the heating works — often a diverter valve.
No heating but hot water works — commonly a motorised valve or thermostat.
Leaking boiler — traced and repaired properly, not patched over.
Banging, gurgling or kettling noises — often sludge in the system; we advise if a power flush is needed.
Boiler keeps switching off or won’t fire up — pressure, ignition or fan faults.
Frozen condensate pipe — the classic winter fault we can often talk you through on the phone.
Fault or error codes on the display — we diagnose what the code actually means for your make and model.

A recent boiler repair in Dagenham
A homeowner in Dagenham called us with no heating and no hot water. On arrival, our engineer found the boiler — a Worcester Bosch — wasn’t firing up. Working through the likely causes, we tested the gas valve and the spark (ignition) electrode, and traced the fault to a faulty electrode, which is one of the more common faults we see on Worcester Bosch boilers. We had the part in van stock, so we replaced it and completed the repair the same day. The boiler was firing again and back to full heating and hot water within about 45 minutes of diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a boiler repair take?
Many common faults are fixed within an hour or two, especially where we carry the part in the van. More involved repairs, or ones needing an ordered part, can take longer — we will always give you a clear idea once we have diagnosed the fault.
Should I turn my boiler off if it is leaking?
Yes. If your boiler is leaking water, turn it off and turn off the water supply to it if you can, to prevent further damage, then call us. If you ever smell gas, treat it as an emergency: ventilate, turn off the gas at the meter, avoid switches and flames, and call 0800 111 999 first.
Can you repair older boilers?
Yes. We repair older and modern boilers alike, and we will only recommend replacement if a repair is genuinely uneconomical or parts are no longer available. Age alone does not mean a boiler needs replacing.
Do you carry spare parts?
We carry the most common replacement parts in our vans, which is why we resolve many faults on the first visit. If a less common part is needed we will order it and arrange a prompt return visit.
Which boiler brands do you repair?
All the major makes, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm, Viessmann, Potterton and many others.
How much does a boiler repair cost?
It depends on the fault and any parts required. We diagnose the problem and give you a clear, fixed quote before any work starts — no work is carried out until you have approved the cost.
Do you offer emergency boiler repair?
Yes. We provide 24/7 emergency cover for boiler breakdowns, loss of heating and hot water, and suspected gas problems across East London from our Bow and Dagenham bases.
